Since the house is on fire let us warm ourselves. ~Italian Proverb
The most tangible of all visible mysteries - fire. ~Leigh Hunt
Absence diminishes small loves and increases great ones, as the wind blows out the candle and fans the bonfire. ~François Duc de La Rochefoucauld
Human attraction and fascination with fire has occurred since man first saw flame. There is something about its roaring presence, searing heat and amber glow that draws us to it. Leaving us all, at some point or another, to learn the lesson that it does indeed burn.
We also know that piromania can surface in the course of everyday life and love in the form of living on the edge or questioning your morals. So why stand so close to the fire that you have to turn and hover from the heat? Why tease the flame?
Here is a poem I wrote in July of this year (when I was feeling the fire...lol)
Playing with Fire
Category: Writing and Poetry
the fire rages with
a flux of love oxygen
not one to play with
i burn through bullshit
consume fear
I am a firestarter
piromaniac
with open flame
orange flickering
burning fire
blazing hot
searing mentality
scorching tongue
that blue light lit
on the end of your wick
dancing sparks
soaring in wind
devouring inhibition
fueled by desire
ignited by the fingers
of your right hand
that skims skin
and causes night sweats
in our sleep
from the memory of
our sweltering heat
the fire rages within
come put me out
