Why Build A House with No Foundation?

How many of you out there can say you have been in an empty relationship?

What kept you holding on? Their looks, their money, your fear of being alone?

I can say that I have fallen victim to this situation on more than one occasion. I found that some insecurity of mine would surface as a need to cling to someone that somehow aided in partially fulfilling my need. I am so glad to be out of that phase!!!

Here is a poem that I wrote, several years ago that relates to this topic. Let me know how you feel!

Sigh...
Category: Writing and Poetry

I'd give you the world if
you'd just stop throwing pebbles my way
Three broken rocks
don't make a precious stone
You build up my house
with no foundation
I climb your stairs
but I keep falling

Let's play a little game
of give and take...
Say uhm, for a change
why don't you be the Giver
the visitor, the one to cook dinner?
You want it all
but no effort
ultimately wreaks no reward
My gifts are good
but way too extravagant
for that half-ass shit you dish out
You put out just enough
to keep me holding
but never enough
to stake a claim

You want to be the sole benefactor
but ain't offering any benefits
I'd give my last dollar
for you to call
but AT&T is not connected
to your heart
I ride the waves of communication
only to be dumped
into an unyielding sea

Our relationship is like a vintage wine
the older it gets
the more bitter the flavor
Oh, but mark the day
when I take a sip from another's cup
I may be spinning
in a whirlpool over you now,
but the water's decreasing
and the well is about to run dry
You put the cap on crooked
and I'm all cried out
One day you will realize my value
but by then
I will be posted
in a two ring binder
Happily housing an eternal flame.
